Abstract

This study is motivated by the phenomenon of nursing students at STIKES Wira Medika Bali who do not continue their education to the Ners Program. Higher nursing education includes academic and professional education, both essential for achieving competency standards as professional nurses. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing the motivation of eighth-grade students in deciding not to continue to the Ners Program. This research uses a qualitative approach with the life histories case study method. The participants are five nursing students (two males and three females) from the eighth grade, selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews recorded and analyzed using the Collaizi method. The results show two main themes influencing students' motivation: Internal Motivation and External Motivation. Internal Motivation includes aspirations, task load, knowledge, and reliable skills. Aspirations and goals are crucial in forming intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. A heavy task load hampers student motivation. Adequate knowledge about the importance of Ners professional education increases motivation, while students who feel satisfied with a bachelor's degree show lower motivation. Skills and confidence in health care services also affect motivation. External Motivation includes economic conditions, parental relationships, and peer relationships. Family economic conditions are the primary factor influencing students' decisions to continue education. Parental support greatly affects motivation. Peers also play a significant role in shaping perceptions and attitudes. This study concludes that the motivation of students to continue education to the Ners Program is influenced by a combination of internal and external factors.
